Castello di Contignaco

Contignaco Castle was build during XI century by Adalberto Pallavicino. In 1315 was conquered by Aldighieri Family, related with Alighieri Family in Tuscany. Some legends tell about the fact that Dante Alighieri could be had a stay in this Castel. 

Excellent example of Medieval Military Architecture, the Castle has a regular plant, around an internal square courtyard. The tower, around 30 meters high, was build in 1030. In the garden wonderful example of oaks, cedars, cypresses and laurels including a majestic oak tree placed in front of the entrance door, can be seen. 

Nowadays the Fortress is included in the Ducal Castles Circuit and it is opened for being visited during Saturday, Sunday and Monday. The Wine Companies produce always good wines, like Bianco del Conte, Durante, Rosso del Sasso and Rosso del Rio dei Predoni, which can be tasted and bought. 

The Castle organizes different kind of events during the year, like Vola il Medioevo (free fly Medieval Falconry demonstration), Aperitivo al Tramonto (Aperitif during the sunset, with a wonderful view on the Contignaco Valley), Dante per i bambini (Dante for the children, treasure hunt based on the Divine Comedy). It possibile also rent the spaces for organizing wedding parties, parties, dinners and business meetings.
