Walking between day and night in search of the bellowing of deer in love
The powerful bellowing of deer in love: this is what we will try to hear as we walk through the woods and meadows of Val Baganza just after sunset. During this season, male deer challenge each other with this powerful vocalisation (before locking antlers) to win the favour of the females, before preparing for the hardships of winter.
Val Baganza, between Terenzo, Calestano and Berceto, is home to the largest deer population in the province of Parma. Walking along cart tracks and paths, we will look for the ideal spot to listen to the bellowing of these elegant lords of the forest, which reaches its peak intensity at this time of year.
For those who wish to meet up beforehand, there will be an aperitif at 6.15 p.m. at “Dal Vecio” in Cassio.
Departure: Cassio Parmense, 6 p.m. (the exact location will be given to those who book),
Minimum number of participants: 6, maximum: 25.
Excursion duration: 2-2.5 hours, maximum elevation gain: 200 metres on cart tracks and trails. A torch is required, preferably a head torch.
Expected end time around 9-9.30 p.m.
Participation fee: €15 per person for adults and €10 for children under 12 years of age.
Winter hiking clothing and boots are required (there may be some mud), as well as a torch, water and a snack (it is recommended to eat something beforehand, as it will be difficult to have a proper picnic along the trail due to the season).
