Prato Spilla is a ski and tourist area located at 1350 meters of altitude, on the border between the province of Massa Carrara and Reggio Emilia, in a great environmental territory which is part of the Cento Laghi Regional Park.

Why visit it

The magnificent Apennine crest, full of glacial lakes, offers mountain lovers the chance to go trekking and encounters with spectacular beauty. Besides deer and wild boars there are wolves, martens, eagles and royal owls. On clear days, from some mountains tops, it is possible to see the Gulf of La Spezia and the Palmaria isle. With the lakes and the many rivers crossing the valley, it is also possible to go trout fishing.

When to go and what to see

The rich flora and the plush underwood create a nice chance to go on a relaxing hike. The many routes going from the villages to the crest, through the woods, meadows and heaths, allow horseback riding lovers and mountain bike riders to spend unforgettable moments of fun surrounded by a beautiful environment.

The ski resort with its lifts allows ski lovers, during winter time, to go skiing and, during summer time, the chair lift brings people up to the crest for hiking.

It is possible to ski on 10 km of slopes with four lifts: a chair lift, a ski lift and two magic carpet lift.

Do not miss

For ski lovers we suggest to take the chairlift Rio Spilla that takes you at 1.700 meters of altitude, where you can admire a breathtaking landscape, from the Gulf of La Spezia to the Alps.

On the table

In the trattorias of the area, visitators can taste flavours of local products, cooked in the real mountain tradition. Handmade cured meats, polenta, game, porcini mushrooms and wild berries will satisfy the most finicky mouths.
