From October 15, 2023 to January 21, 2024 at the APE Parma Museum, over three hundred works will be on display to tell the story in images of the journey to the Middle East – the territory that went from Greece to Turkey and from Greater Syria to Egypt – in the period between the Napoleonic expedition to Egypt and the fall of the Ottoman Empire.
From the great documentary enterprise commissioned by Napoleon on the land of the pharaohs and published between 1809 and 1829 (Panckoucke edition) in France, to the lithographs of David Roberts, the first daguerreotypes by Girault de Prangey made around 1841 and, again, the photographs of Maxime Du Camp, Gustave Flaubert's companion on his journey to the East (1849-1851).
An exhibition not to be missed that will immerse you in the journey of photographers and writers, the distant journey of fairy tales and the more recent journey of the novel, from Gérard de Nerval to Pierre Loti, the journey of pilgrims and that of tourists, which will become more and more organized by Cook and other agencies.
