Through woods and unexpected views, the Apennines in Emilia reveal well-equipped ski resorts for practicing all kinds of winter sports: from cross-country skiing to exciting excursions and guided snowshoeing, through lakes and forests.
IN THE PROVINCE OF PARMA
Prato Spilla, in the Municipality of Monchio delle Corti (Parma), is the ideal starting point for excursions and snowshoeing inside the Cento Laghi Regional Park, and a beautiful way into the Appennino Tosco-Emiliano National Park.
Those who reach the altitude of 1,800 meters above sea level can enjoy a unique view: the sea touches the sky.
Schia - Caio Mountain
The Ski area of Schia – Caio Mountain in Tizzano Val Parma, belongs to the Cento Laghi Park and Dukedom Parks.
This area allows visitors to go ski hiking and snowshoesing, even with expert guides from the new Guide Group of Caio Mountain, to discover beautiful landscapes of the Parma Apennines.
Alta Val Parma
Lagdei, Lagoni and Lago Santo are the places of this area characterized by glacial lakes with endless possibilities for winter and summer excursions.
Among the experiences connected to nature and excellent typical cuisine, there are taste itineraries with snowshoesing and nocturnal trekking on the trail of the wolf, together with several marked paths.
Guided snowshoeing are organized by Cento Laghi Park:
- “Courts Snowshoeing” (21 February 2021) to discover the courts, that were an autonomous jurisdiction here in this mountain area, between legends and votive altars in the woods,
- “Circular path Snowshoeing: Prato Spilla-Lago Ballano-Lago Verde-Capanna Cagnin-Prato Spilla” (28 Februrary 2021) between panoramic view and animal tracks in the snow,
- Guided excursion “Navert Mountain during winter…a natural book talking about footprints and tracks” (14 March 2021) on top of the mountain ridge between woods and 360° views of surrounding valleys

IN THE PROVINCE OF PIACENZA
Penice Pass is located on the border between Staffora valley in Lombardy and Trebbia Valley – Tidone Valley in Emilia Romagna.
The pass (1,149 meters above sea level) is at the base of Penice Mountain (1,460 meters above sea level) in the Municipality of Bobbio.
While waiting for the ski lifts to reopen, it’s possible to participate in guided excursions and snowshoeing scheduled on weekends.

IN THE PROVINCE OF REGGIO EMILIA
The Cerreto Pass is the crossroads between 3 regions, Emilia Romagna, Liguria and Tuscany.
From there you can reach the best place for winter sports: Cerreto Laghi, in the scenary of an Apennine lake of glacial origin.
Here you can spend wonderful days in the snow, thanks to the cross-country skiing trails among centuries-old beechwood forests and guided snowshoeing.
Having fun is guaranteed by snowshoeing, sledding with husky dogs and excursions in the snow in the Ventasso Mountain (1,727 meters above the sea level) and Calamone lake, both located in the small village of Ventasso Laghi inside the Appennino Tosco-Emiliano National Park.
There are 18 km of cross-country skiing circuits in Pratizzano, where you can also participate in guided snowshoe hikes.
The snow-covered slopes at the base of Cusna Mountain offer beautiful landscapes for snowshoeing, even with departures from Monteorsaro.
On the main Apennine ridge, from Pradarena Pass, between Cavalbianco Mountain and Asinara Mountain, you can find breath-taking landscapes.
