Open theatres in Emilia

Visit Emilia is opening the curtain on 22 historical theatres in Parma, Piacenza, Reggio Emilia and in the nearby area.

TEATRO REGIO
Parma
One of the finest opera theatres in Italy, built in the neoclassical style: the duchess Maria Luigia Asburgo Lorena, wife of Napoleone Bonaparte, ordered the construction in 1821.

TEATRO FARNESE
Parma
Discover the unique harmony of this theatre located inside Pilotta complex and built entirely in wood in 1618.

TEATRO GIUSEPPE VERDI
Busseto (Parma)
Located inside the Rocca, hosted some of young Giuseppe Verdi’s performances. Even though the theatre is entitled to him, Verdi strangely had a complicated relationship with this place.

TEATRO MAGNANI
Fidenza (Parma)
The elegant concert hall, with three orders of boxes, a proscenium enriched with gold and white stuccoes, is one of the highlights of the theatre; It is entitled to the local artist who created dozens of Verdi’s sets. Magnani also decorated the interiors entirely, including the hall “Sala del Ridotto”.

ARENA DEL SOLE
Roccabianca (Parma)
Opened in 1946, visitors will enjoy its unique feature: 9 statues, that used to be part of the larger monument by Ettore Ximenes entitled to Giuseppe Verdi and located in the railway station square in Parma. The statues, portrays of Verdi’s operas, were damaged during World War Two and then relocated inside the theatre. Now you can see them during your visit to the theatre.

TEATRO PALLAVICINO
Polesine Zibello (Parma)
The small Italian-style hall in the hearth of Lower Parma is an evolution of the original rougher one commissioned by the Marquis Antonio Pallavicino in 1804.

TEATRO MUNICIPALE DI PIACENZA
Piacenza
Th finest theatre in Italy according to Stendhal, this one boasts a unique, cutting-edge and elegant structure. In 1895 was the first theatre in Italy to be lit by electric lamps.

Located in an alley between via Castello and via Taverna, reveals in its structure the holy origins of the protoromanic Tempietto.

TEATRO DEI FILODRAMMATICI
Piacenza
Built in the XVI century, it was originally conceived as a church to host Saint Franca’s remains, patroness of Cistercian nuns. It was later used for military purposes and converted into a school of music and a printing house before being turned into a theatre at the beginning of the XX cent.

TEATRO GIOIA
Piacenza
Once church of the Holy Heart and headquarters of the Jesuit Order, later converted into the Romagnosi theatre. Officially became a theatre in 1990.

TEATRO SERRA DI PARCO RAGGIO
Pontenure (Piacenza)
Built between the end of the XIX Cent. And the beginning of the XX, this gem located near Villa Fortunata hosts a stage built in masonry and a proscenium arch preserving traces of flower decorations.

Opened in 1823, here the worldwide renown dancer Anna Maria “Marietta” Baderna performed for the first time in 1841.

TEATRO ELEONORA DUSE
Cortemaggiore (Piacenza)
At the beginning of the XX cent. this theatre was entitled to a legendary Italian actress who first performed at the age of 10. Originally hosted a convent and later converted into a theatre on commission from Maria Luigia of Austria (1826).

TEATRINO DEL CASTELLO DI VIGOLENO
Vigoleno (Piacenza)
Probably one the smallest theatres in the world, it was designed by Russian painter Alexandr Jacovleff in the twenties. Exotic style and rich in symbolism, the hall is a triumph of suggestions and details bound in a dense vegetation that reminds of Severini’s magic realism.

Guastalla (Reggio Emilia)
One of the ten oldest theatres in Italy, it was designed in 1671 by Anronio Vasconi by order of Ferrante the Third Duke of Guastalla.

The name recalls the old toponym of Rubiera, and its curtain first rose in 1926 revealing the late art-nouveau style designed by Antonio Panizzi and Italo Costa.

Gualtieri (Reggio Emilia)
Open since 1907 Inside the XVI century fortress- palace built for the will of Bentivoglio family, the original tiny wooden baroque hall designed by Giovan Battista Fattori in 1775 has been rebuilt on a larger scale.

TEATRO COMUNALE
Rio Saliceto (Reggio Emilia)
An original example of both private and public construction, it was inaugurated in 1911 apparently for the will of Clina Sacchetti who invested her husband’s money for buying lands in building this hall.

TEATRO SOCIALE DANILO DONATI
Luzzara (Reggio Emilia)
Inaugurated in 1852 thanks to the local theatre company, the theatre has lived several events that have led to its closing at the beginning of the sixthies. It was later bought by the local municipality and in 1988 began restoration works, then stopped due to insufficient funds. Thanks to the project by Un paese foundation and a group of passionate volunteers, in 2013 the local Municipality started again restoration works finished in 2018 with the opening of the new Teatro Sociale Luzzara, entitled to Danilo Donati, now hosting 99 seats.
